With the defending champions off their way, Seattle now points at Chicago
The other NFC Divisional playoff game will have the Falcons on their third consecutive winning season receiving the Packers, whom they already defeated this season.
The Seattle Seahawks are no longer just the team that clinched the NFC West title with a losing record (7-9), as since the wild card round against the New Orleans Saints they became known as the team that knocked out the defending champions. The 66,336 fans that came to the Qwest Field witnessed how their Seahawks kept the momentum of the decisive regular season 16-6 win against the St. Louis Rams going on, to against all odds defeat the Saints in an epic game.
Keeping that momentum going will be vital for their divisional playoff game against the Chicago Bears this upcoming Sunday the 16th. Seahawks head coach, Pete Carroll, is well known for his emotional style, style that has contributed to the character-building of his players in a season where they have overcome a lot of setbacks.
Out of the seven victories that Seattle had throughout the regular season, one was precisely against the Bears during Week 6 at Chicago. The Seahawks will be returning to the Soldier Field where they already had a taste of victory after defeating the Bears by 23-20, in a game that quarterback Jay Cutler was sacked six times by Seattle. This will be the first post season experience for Cutler, experience where he will try to leave behind the memories from that last game to lead his Bears into the NFC Championship game.
Linebacker Lance Briggs missed his only game of the season, against Seattle, due to a sprained ankle, but the 6-time Pro Bowl does have his presence guaranteed for Sunday. He will be leading the Bears defense, defense that has only allowed 14 touchdown passes this season, which makes them the second best team in the NFL for that category.
Despite being a much better team than they where in Week 6, the Bears learned a lesson from the Saints' loss at Seattle: these Seahawks can't be underestimated.
Packers and Falcons are ready to untie head-to-head playoff record
Wild card Green Bay Packers got NFC East champions Philadelphia Eagles off their way with a 21-16 road win at the Lincoln Financial Field, to move on to the divisional playoffs where the Atlanta Falcons will be their next obstacle before the Conference Championship. The Falcons have only lost one game at the Georgia Dome (7-1) this season, and it was on Week 16 to the Saints by 17-14, which ended with their 8-win streak.
Packers and Flacons saw their faces once in the regular season at Atlanta, a game that was won 17-20 by the home team on Week 12. It was placekicker Matt Bryant's 47-yard field goal when there were 9 seconds left on the fourth quarter clock that stopped that game from going into the overtime.
It will be the first time in history that these two teams meet up for a Divisional playoff game, although they did experience two Wild Card confrontations in the past 18 seasons, with one victory for each (in 1995 Packers won 37-20 and in 2003 the Falcons did by 27-7). Those two games where played at the Lambeau Field. Not only are they tied in playoff wins, but also in all-time confrontations that register 13 wins for each.
With three touchdowns passes against the Eagles, Aaron Rodgers will try to keep the momentum going and win his career second postseason game, which could represent Atlanta's second all-time (3-1) playoff defeat at home.
